The Best Places to Ski Near East Yellowstone
Sleeping Giant Ski Area
The closest attraction to Cody, Wyoming proper, Sleeping Giant Ski Area is a 120-acre polar paradise. The ski area offers a great range of beginner and expert slopes and provides classes to help beginners learn the art of skiing. Sleeping Giant delivers a wide variety of rental equipment for Nordic Skiing, tubing, snowboarding, and night skiing.
Red Lodge Mountain
Tucked away in the Beartooth Mountain range, Red Lodge Mountain offers an expansive array of runs in an expanded season. Thanks to an extensive network of snowmaking machines, Red Lodge provides snowmaking coverage on 28% of their trails (most significant in Montana). Red Lodge features 70 runs with a marked choice of Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, and Expert to choose from. At 1,635 acres, Red Lodge has the space to deliver a considerable mountain experience with six chair lifts and one surface lift. The season starts Thanksgiving weekend and stays open until mid-April, and is even open during the Christmas/New Years’ season!
Antelope Butte Mountain
A non-profit, Antelope Butte Mountain Foundation, services the Bighorn National Forest, focusing on outreach to the local community. The Recreation area provides 225 skiable acres and a 1,000-foot vertical drop with a summit elevation of 9,400 feet. There are three lifts that service 28 runs, but not all of the runs are currently named. The Area also provides rentals for Nordic skiing, fat biking, and snowshoeing. You can even rent the entire (!) mountain for a private ski day. With that, you receive a yurt, event tent, rental equipment, and use of the lifts.
While it is not as polished or fancy as Red Lodge, Antelope has an austere beauty if you want to spend some time in the Bighorn Basin.
